چکیده

The behavior of the splitting of the second heart sound was analyzed in 78 cases with peripheral arterial stenosis, including 51 of •gaortitis syndrome•h (Takayasu's arteritis). Reversed or paradoxical splitting was observed in 10 cases of aortitis syndrome and 1 case with renal artery stenosis. Frequent occurrence of the reversed splitting was observed in •gextensive •h form of aortitis syndrome (8 out of 18 cases, i.e. 44%). Correlative study disclosed that the reversed splitting was frequently associated with gallop rhythm and exaggerated •ga•h wave as well as systolic bulge in the precordial low-frequency tracing (particularly the apex cardiogram). Frequent coincidence between the reversed splitting and aortic regurgitation was observed in aortitis syndrome (8 out of 17 cases with aortic insufficiency). Cardiac enlargement on the chest roent-

Impact of Blood Vessel Wall Flexibility on the Temperature and Concentration Dispersion

The analysis of solute and thermal dispersion in pulsatile flow through the stenotic tapered blood vessel is presented. The present problem is an extension of the work done by Ramana et al. who considered the time-invariant arterial wall. In the present model, the flexible nature of the arterial wall through the obstruction (called stenosis) is considered and it is achieved with the he...

A new, simple, and accurate method for non-invasive estimation of pulmonary arterial pressure.

OBJECTIVE To develop and validate a new non-invasive method for the estimation of pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP) based on advanced signal processing of the second heart sound. DESIGN Prospective comparative study. SETTING Referral cardiology centre. PATIENTS This method was first tested in 16 pigs with experimentally induced pulmonary hypertension and then in 23 patients undergoing pul...

Dynamic analysis of heart sounds in right and left bundle-branch blocks.

SUMMARY A clinical, electrocardiographic, phonocardiographic, and arteriographic study was made of 20 normal subjects, 20 patients with right bundle-branch block (RBBB) and 20 patients with left bundle-branch block (LBBB). Ventricular asynchronism was documented in nearly all cases of bundle-branch block by the behavior of the arterial pulse and the heart sounds. The first heart sound was of no...

Transluminal angioplasty: correlation of morphologic and angiographic findings in an experimental model.

The morphologic consequences of transluminal angioplasty of stenotic atherosclerotic coronary arteries are unknown. This study describes the production of aortoiliac atherosclerosis in rabbits and reports the morphologic changes after transluminal angioplasty of stenotic arterial lesions. Atherosclerotic lesions were evaluated angiographically before and after transluminal angioplasty and were ...

A phonocardiographic study of right bundle branch block, with special reference to the second heart sound.

The second heart sounds in 29 cases with right bundle branch block, mainly surgically induced, were studied. Three general types of the second sound were classified. Eleven cases revealed wide splitting of the second sound (0.05 sec. or more), and 14 cases showed narrow splitting less than 0.05 sec.), while 4 cases showed a single 2nd heart sound throughout the respiratory cycle. Ten cases reve...
